What is it?

Cocaine is a well known drug that is commonly encountered in the party scene. It usually comes in the form of a white powder and is derived from the leaf of the coca plant. Cocaine is often seen as an “upmarket” or “trendy” drug due to its relatively high price when compared to other substances.

Unlike a number of the other substances used in the party scene, there doesn’t appear to be any beneficial or medical use for Cocaine.

Fun fact: It’s been reported that up until 1929, cocaine was used as an ingredient in the famous Coca-Cola soft drink.

How do I take Cocaine?

Cocaine is usually snorted, but can also be taken in other ways such as by rubbing it on your gums.

Recommended dosage

The average dose or “line” that is snorted by a user ranges from 30mg – 70mg.

Cocaine can be extremely destructive and harmful and therefore has no “recommended” or “safe” dosage such as MDMA.

In mice, the lethal dosage of cocaine is about 95 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. This can loosely be applied to humans.

Effects while under the influence

Desirable effects – Extreme euphoria, confidence and alertness

Undesirable effects – Agitation, anxiety, paranoia, muscle spasms, numbness, nose bleeds, difficulty breathing, difficulty sleeping.

Duration

Effects are felt within minutes and usually don’t last any longer than 60 minutes, with peak effects felt around the 15 – 30 minute mark.

Various factors such as the purity of the cocaine and one’s tolerance can influence the duration and intensity of the high.

Immediate Dangers

  • Increase in heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature.
  • Overdose
  • Various side effects and dangers of laced or fake cocaine (Very common).
