A modern approach to recreational drug use
We believe that through education, awareness and the necessary tools, the harm done by recreational drug use can be reduced.
About Us
Vibesafe was created to help promote a safe and responsible party scene in South Africa, and to change the narrative around how we deal with recreational drug use.
We believe that human beings will always find a way to gain access to and experiment with drugs. For that reason we believe that purely outlawing drugs will never keep people safe from their dangers. We believe that the best way to prevent the negative impact of drugs is to provide people with the neccessary information and education to make informed decisions and use recreational drugs responsibly.
We aim to do this by creating awareness and educating party goers on harm reduction techniques and responsible drug use, and then by providing the necessary tools and products to help make it possible.
What are reagent test kits?
Reagent test kits trigger chemical reactions with both organic and inorganic substances. Reagents are commonly used in laboratory or field settings to test for the presence of various substances. One of the uses of reagents is to test for various illegal drugs that are often encountered in the party scene.
Reagent test kits can be used help identify potentially dangerous and adulterated drugs before they can be consumed.
Most deaths related to illegal drug use in the party scene are due to users being sold dangerous counterfeit or impure substances.
Reagent testing is the most accessible but least accurate type of testing available. These test kits work by changing colour upon coming into contact with various drugs. The observed colour changes are compared to a reference chart – if the colour change corresponds to the colour on the chart, your sample contains some of the substance you are testing for. The test cannot indicate the purity or amount of the substance.
Reagent test kits are known as presumptive tests –the results need interpretation by the user and cannot give definitive results. They can indicate that “this is definitely not the substance I thought it was” or “this is probably the substance I thought it was”.
Some of the benefits of simple reagent test kits over laboratory type tests, are that they only take a couple of minutes to test a sample, which is useful for people who buy their drugs just before they plan on taking them and they are also relatively cheap.
